Planning really helps

February 28, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve missed two days of training because of lack of planning. I could sit here and say that it was because I had to deal with friends emergencies but in reality I would be lying. The emergencies did not happen until later in the day and I could have worked around them.

So to really get this training done I’m going to have to do my walking first thing in the morning. I would train right before I take a shower and head off to bed but our neighborhood isn’t the greatest and it’s not well lighted at night. I also think that the barking dogs would drive everyone in the neighborhood crazy.

The topic of planning and letting things get in the way of goals really racks my marbles. It amazes me on how much energy I put into other things but I easily push my personal goals and health to the backburner of life. Is society training us this way?

I can look around my apartment and find eight other things that I need to do. It’s really easy to say “Oh I’ll train tomorrow” and go off and do those other eight things. Let’s see there are dishes in the kitchen, laundry to be put away, a bathroom to be cleaned, blog posts that need to be written, meals to be made, and time to be spent with a loving husband.

O.K. enough of that let me get off this computer, get my shoes on and get to walking.

Long day ending in pain

February 26, 2008 · No Comments

Sorry about getting this to everyone late. Mike and I had a long eight hours yesterday. All I wanted to do was get home, eat our dinner, watch a little T.V. and then crash.

It was a productive day because I was able to get almost three miles of walking in. Though by the end of our eight hours of errands my feet were on fire. I don’t know if my shoes are causing a heat rash on my foot or if it’s just rubbing on the feet. I’ve sent some emails to some fellow walkers and one to my uncle to find out how to prevent it. My uncle has been a runner for years and I’m sure that he’s dealt with this before.

Some of my friends on Sparkpeople suggested putting Vasaline or bee wax salve on my feet and then using cotton walking socks. I’m going to try that tonight when I head out for another walk.

I still have a lot of excitement inside of me today. I’m excited about the possibility of walking for the cure in 2009. I hope they are going to have one in Texas next year. I would like to do the 3 day walk and then spend some time with my sister, brother, and nephew in law.

I’m also excited about watching my measurements and the scale hitting lower numbers. I know that it’s not going to happen in a week but maybe I can see at least a 1 pound loss for the week.

Well Mike and I should get back to the job searching. It’s really, really tough out there. Especially with people who have roadblocks like we do. I know that God will help us find a way around it.

Everyone have a great Tuesday and I’ll see you later tonight to talk about my training today.

Day 2 of training

February 25, 2008 · No Comments

It’s actually a rest day for training. I get one day a week and I’m going to enjoy it. I did get about a half mile walk in today. My husband and I have to take public transportation to work. So the walk is usually a quarter mile to the bus stop and then a quarter mile home from the bus stop.

Though I feel a little silly. We could have just kept walking to the light rail which would have given us a two mile walk for the day. The rest of the day is filled with church, bible study, and fellowship with friends.

I’m really excited about the training for the yearly 3 day walks. I pray that I can raise the money each year to actually do the walk but all I can do is try my best. I’m excited about raising money, I’m excited about possible doing the walk, I’m excited about getting pictures of Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Cleveland, Seattle, The Twin Cities, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, and Arizona.

Well unless they change the cities each year. It’s just the possibility of being able to travel around the U.S. for a good cause.

Training and the rain

February 24, 2008 · No Comments

Why did it have to rain today? My first day of training and I had to do it in the rain. I guess all days can’t be sunny N. California 75 degree weather. I did train for one mile though and I have to say that I’m happy with that. I have been away from exercise and walking for a long time. So a 460 pound woman walking a mile has to be a good start right? Right?

The rain just remind me that I have prepare  for it. I’m going to have to check around for a bright rain jacket (hopefully pink) and a pair of rain shoes because N. California has 2 more months of off and on again weather.

Anyone have any cures for being grumpy in the rain. I know there has to be people out there who train for Ironman competition, Ironwoman competitions, and such in the rain. How do you get through the wind and rain in your face?

Coughing Crud

February 16, 2008 · No Comments

It’s been a rough week for our family. Both my husband and I are feeling under the weather. The fact that we both have to look for work just doesn’t make it any better. I really wish I had finished my college education. I know that so many other doors would be open if I had just finished my Accounting degree.

Then there is my mom. I wouldn’t suggest helping a parent with thier finances to anyone. It’s just put a wall between my mom and I. Our conversation started like this.

“Mom I need you to tell me all about the income that you are getting and what you are spending it on.”

On the outside, her answer is O.K. but later I find out that she has been taking out payday advances after I have been sending her money.

I don’t think I will understand my mother and her thoughts on money. We are like fire and water. She would love to spend her life using credit cards and spending money. I want every penny that I spend down on paper.

Hopefully I’ll figure out a way of teaching her how to save money and just splurge once in a while.

Losing sleep over God’s will

February 9, 2008 · 2 Comments

Have you ever had one of those nights when you lie in bed knowing that God wants to talk to you, or at least wanting to hear from God. There is no way on God’s green earth that your going to be able to sleep unless it happens?

Last night was one of those nights. There I am at thirty minutes after midnight tossing a turning with thoughts going through my head. Questions and comments like “I need to clean the house. What does God say about my life? I need to organize the house. What is God’s will in my life” dance in my head.

There’s a lot going through my mind to say the least and after cleaning a couple of drawers out I was able to sit down and actually read my bible. This is something I haven’t done in a while I must confess.

So now I’m stuck on the Lord’s prayer and God’s Will. I’m sure we have all prayed the prayer and know the scripture, especially if you have a Catholic background.

Our Father who art in Heaven
Hollow is thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven

How am I suppose to do God’s will on earth if I don’t know what it is? I know that Jesus taught, healed the sick, fed the hungry, showed brotherly love, was a servant at times of his life and even after death.

I have to admit that people who are trying to teach online do not make it easy to find out wha the will of God is. Perhaps that’s the point, that we don’t know what God’s will is. As long as we love God with our heart, mind, and spirit then His will will be done in our lives.

Any thoughts?

Now the rest of the day is probably going to be spent looking for work, cleaning house, and studying the bible. I did get a word this morning and the words that were heard is “How can God bless your family if your house is unorganized?” That touched me in so many different ways.
